Entitled "The imprisonment of children as a last resort", the event will take place at the Royal Imperial Hotel Kampala. Défense des Enfants International (DEI) and The African Child Policy Forum (ACPF) are organizing a global conference on juvenile justice in Africa on 7 and 8 November in Kampala, Uganda.
The issue of management or treatment of children in conflict with the law has been a recurring situation within many countries, and Africa is no exception. Although significant progress has been made, much remains to be done to ensure justice for all children in Africa. Often children's fundamental rights are not respected by the legal systems, social security and national justice and/or security institutions. The rules of justice that have been established often correspond to those meant for adults and rarely consider the needs of children. In short, their fundamental human rights of access to adequate and humane justice constitute a postscript in a justice system geared primarily toward adults.
