“Intervention and prevention to help young people on the streets, victims of child abuse and cruelty in Vietnam”

As a result of an earlier draft and attendant to the development of the National Network of Street Workers, the Ho Chi Minh Child Welfare Foundation and Dynamo International, with the financial support of Wallonie-Bruxelles International, maintain their collaboration efforts throughout a new project.
During the 1st quarter of 2011, the Coordination Committee for the project “Intervention and prevention to help young people on the streets, victims of child abuse and cruelty in Vietnam” has been able to achieve the following:
- Establishing the Coordination Office
- Organizing the opening ceremony for the Project
- Organizing the meeting of the National Network of Street Workers to discuss and prepare the activities to be carried out within the framework of the project and to agree on an effective cooperation mechanism. After the launch of the program, we decided to start 13 work groups on the streets, 10 Information Centers for children and young people, 10 centers in charge of communication sessions and community education sessions addressed both to children and parents, 3 Support Centers for professional training and 7 artistic workshops.
- Establishing the structure of the Coordination Office, creating a charter with the specific duties assigned to each member of the Office.
- Preparing a dossier to obtain official status for the project in the eyes of local authorities.
- Creating documents, files and monitoring charts for the project’s activities.
- Preparing the plan of action for the 2nd quarter (training of the street workers and education of the children, Network meetings, creation of the communication tools necessary and the webpage of the Network...)
The opening ceremony of the project was held in a solemn event on March 9th, 2011, in the Ho Chi Minh “Press Club”. The HCWF’s attendance achieved 60 participants, including Mr. Edwin de Boevé, Director of Dynamo International; Mr. Tran Quoc Duy, expert from Dynamo International; the UNICEF representative in Ho Chi Minh city; the Labor Department representative for Social Endeavors and the Disabled for Ho Chi Minh city; the responsible officials from the several organizations, social centers and institutions; the members of the Street Educators Network for Ho Chi Minh, Da Nang, Phan Thiet, Nha Trang, Can Tho, Dong Thap; and finally, media representatives.
