European groups for street education meet in Prague

Starting March 28th and until April 2nd, 2011, the city of Prague hosted a meeting where 15 representatives from the European groups for street education gathered with the aim to define the activities to be developed within the framework of the Progress Program 2011.
Several subjects were covered during the symposium: internal and external communications were debated, as well as the educational strategy, one of the pivotal points of the joint proposal by Dynamo International/Street Workers Network. In addition to that, an internal competition to finance certain projects that met specific conditions (international scope, social innovation, etc.) was carried out. Proposals were examined and given scores, and only validation was missing. Eventually, after several queries and abiding by the Progress criteria, the chosen projects for the year 2011 are: Investigation on Street Education Evaluation (United Kingdom group) and Proper Practice Exchange about Work with Migrants (Italian group), including participation on the part of the Romanian and Greek groups.
We are undergoing many difficulties at present in all countries: social budget cuts, repressive policies being promoted, poverty being considered an individual responsibility, wider necessities accompanied by lesser resources and means. Nevertheless, the attitude of our associations is proactive, looking for ways to improve our practice and add valuable efforts. Dynamo International Street Workers Network shelters us and provides us with a proper perspective. Trends have become global and we have to look for solutions on a global scale.
