The Committee to Support Street Social Work (CATSR), supported by Dynamo International among other groups, is launching a workshop to homogenize training curricula for social workers, focusing specially on strengthening the capacity of social worker trainers in the Ministry of Social Affairs and in social street work NGOs.
In keeping with a national strategy aimed to protect vulnerable groups, different studies have been conducted by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity at the Democratic Republic of Congo. These studies have shown, among other conclusions, that the current models of social intervention applied to vulnerable groups are not adapted to real problems.
Given this fact, the Ministry of Social Affairs of the DRC, Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity of the Democratic Republic of Congo, with support from UNICEF, decided in 2008 to launch a project of professionalization of social workers. After two years of implementation of this program of basic training, it was found that the contents were divergent and required that teams of trainers could organize a workshop for reflection and definition of objectives and content of training for a social worker. One of the issues taken up was the enrichment of street working modules.
Therefore, with the aim of improving the actions of social workers, the CATSR, supported by Dynamo International and other partners, proposes the launch of a workshop on how to homogenize the training curriculum for social workers focused on strengthening the capacity of social workers trainers of the Ministry of Social Affairs and social NGOs on street work, in order to provide a holistic support to social workers.
The workshop, held from 25-29 April 2011, has become a chance for the alignment of a national curriculum of continuing education for social workers and social educators, which will have the addition of social work on the streets and will be proposed to the Ministry Social Affairs in order to make a formal validation of this proposal. In this way, the trainers will be able to integrate aspects of street work in their training modules, and will be teaching the same content in an easy and flexible way in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
