Norwegian social workers have received their copies of the Guide in their own language. The publishing work was carried out by members of the International Network of Social Street Workers, including LOSU, a Norwegian lobby and non-profit organization that works with young people from the streets.
The International Guide on Street Work Methodology in the World is now available to any social workers in Norway for reference. LOSU, member organization of the Network that works with young people on the streets in need of support and receiving no help from public institutions, is to be found among these organizations. Its intention is to establish proper contact with young people in their earliest stage possible and to motivate them so that they perform alternative activities, assistance programs and counselling. To that end, educators will go out to the streets and the locations where these young people develop their lives, and they’ll work in close collaboration with youth clubs, schools, child protection services and the families of the youngsters involved. Their aims include the performance of street work with the youth community, contributing to their professional development and to the establishment of proper competences in the field of street education, motivating contact and communication among social work professionals, agencies and institutions in the society at large, contributing to the constant contact among social workers on a local, regional and national level, providing information and help to those countries interested in establishing an open local service and contributing to international cooperative actions with like-minded organizations all over the world.
The International Guide on Street Work Methodology in the World in Norwegian will be subject of important dissemination actions that will be favoured by the fact that LOSU represents more than 60 street work groups in the country, including some 250 social work educators.
