Spain : more than 50 professionals took part in the first Street Workers Meeting

Pamplona hosted the first Spanish Street Workers Meeting. In the course of the morning, more than 50 professionals and social workers of various autonomous communities have shared their experiences, reflections and working methods at the meeting celebrated that morning in the civic conference room.
The Meeting was built and prepared during meetings of local workshops of street workers, themselves connected to the International Network of Social Street Workers. Through group dynamics, we particularly sought the participation of the assistants in this forum whose goal was to share experiences, methodologies and especially the difficulties, doubts and uncertainties they face in their daily work.
For them, this meeting was a gathering place, a forum of debates, to establish relations between professionals coming from different zones at national level, but having the same ambitions.
WHAT IS SOCIAL STREET WORK ?
Social street work is a methodology based on direct contact with the person in his/her living environment. The social worker has to be available, establish relationships of trust and support people in their difficulties and their necessary steps.
Social street work priorities are the most vulnerable populations, working with people at risk of social exclusion and creating deep relations between people. In this way, it helps to find adapted solutions and to build through its activities a healthy and liveable public environment.
INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR IN PAMPLONA – JUNE 2010
Social street education has chosen strength as a method of work in these recent years. They want to go much further in that experience. In this processing line, between June 14th and 19th, an International Seminar will be held in Pamplona, organized by the Association Navarra Nuevo Futuro.
It will be the first international seminar organized in Spain, and it will be about “childhood, youth and social exclusion”. Many professionals street workers coming from different countries will be attending these days to reflect and establish proposals on these themes, to go deeper and broaden into other phenomenon such as young migrants, street education as non-formal education proposal or socio-educational responses to social exclusion of young people.
